Caring for Children
WHAT THEY DO: Trinity Place was founded in 1992 as an emergency shelter for youth. Today, Trinity Place is a 24-hour, supervised program in downtown Asheville. Each year, Trinity serves over 100 youth, ages 7-17, of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Youth served at Trinity Place have run away from home or are at risk of running away. The dedicated staff are a source of support to children and provide a home-like environment, while helping youth work toward family reunification or finding alternative placement.
I was couch surfing and kept getting into scary situations because I had nowhere to stay. Trinity Place took me in and helped me figure out my next steps. They listened to me and didn’t judge what I had done to survive. The staff really helped me, and even though I am now in a safe place, I still call them to check in for support.—Jamie, age 17, former Trinity Place resident
