Privacy Policy

Our approach to privacy is simple — we are vigilant about protecting your privacy at all times. Your use of givelocalguide.org (the “Website”) constitutes your acceptance of this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use. If you do not accept any aspect of the Policy you should not use the Website. This Website and the Asheville Give!Local project are owned and operated by Mountain Xpress. You may still participate and make donations to the Give!Local project by using the write-in donation form at the back of this year’s Give!Local print guide.

This Privacy Policy is designed to assist you in understanding what information you may be asked to provide, how the information is used and shared, and how you can control the information via our Website. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as prescribed in this Privacy Policy (aka “Policy”).

Information We Ask You to Provide

If you choose to create an account with us and become a member, you will be asked to select a username and password. We will ask you to provide certain personal information, such as first name, last name, and email address, in creating your user profile. If you donate via the Website, we will also ask you to provide your mailing address for tax-deductible receipt purposes.

Our Use of the Information You Provide

If you create an account with us, we may send periodic e-newsletters, system notifications, and other communications to your email. You may opt out of e-newsletters by adjusting the settings in your user account or by clicking the unsubscribe link on the newsletter email. We will also use the information you submit to the Website to facilitate completion of your donations made via the Website and to provide you with tools to manage and monitor your transactions.

Mountain Xpress will receive and hold in escrow your donation, and then release the donation amount directly to the nonprofits you specified at the time of your donation. When you make a donation to a nonprofit or qualified organization listed on the Website, you grant us permission to access your donation records at any time.

Unless you request that your donor advisement be anonymous, we will make available to your selected nonprofit(s) the information about yourself that you have supply at the time of your donation, including but not limited to your name, address, email, amount donated, age.

If you choose to make your advisement anonymously, we will share only the donation amount, date of donation and other non-identifying information, such as your zip code or age.

If you have made a donation to Asheville Give!Local via the Website or other means, we may send you a one-time, post-giving survey to complete. If you choose to participate in the survey, your feedback on the survey will be shared with the Giving Event Administrator. You will not receive the survey if you have requested that your donor advisement be made anonymously.

Your information may also be provided to third parties (such as our credit card processor, your credit card company or our bank) for the purpose of processing your charitable gift.

We will not share your personal information, donation activity or email address with any other third party without your prior consent (except as may be required by law – see “Legal Requirements” section below).

We will use your contact information to send you information concerning your donation, including without limitation a donation confirmation and any notices about problems with your credit card.

Security

We take security seriously and take reasonable measure to protect our users’ information. All transaction and credit card information entering our Website is encrypted using SSL certificates. We are not, however, responsible for any information you share with other users of the Website or other third parties or if you give your account password to others or use an insecure password.

Privacy Protection for Children

In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, we do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from persons under the age of 13 through the Website or otherwise, unless the child is supervised by a parent or guardian. If we later learn that any user under the age of 13 is using the Website without the consent of the child’s parent or guardian, or that we have inadvertently received personally identifiable information from a user under the age of 13 without the consent of child’s parent or guardian, we will take appropriate steps to remove that user’s information from the database and restrict that user’s access to the Website. We also do not knowingly distribute such information to third parties.
