NAMI Western Carolina

WHAT THEY DO: NAMI Western Carolina is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a nationwide mental health advocacy group dedicated to support, education and advocacy for individuals and families living with mental illness. Our support groups allow everyone to share their experiences and provide hope. Our educational classes and presentations provide up-to-date information about brain disorders, medications and treatment plans. We offer information and contacts for local mental health care.

My first meeting allowed me to ‘meet’ other caregivers, to see how they were dealing with their situations and to feel a bit more hope. Attending the group was a step toward doing what I knew I needed: to take care of myself, not only my mentally ill loved one. The meeting was co-chaired in an organized, helpful manner.
