- The first 10 donors of $100 and up will be entered into a drawing for a French Broad River kayak tour with Renee Fortner, RiverLink’s watershed resources manager.
WHAT THEY DO: RiverLink champions the environmental and economic vitality of the French Broad River and its watershed. For over three decades, RiverLink has spearheaded the development of parks and greenways that ensure public access to the French Broad River in perpetuity. Each year, we educate thousands of K-12 students and adults about river ecosystems and water quality. We also undertake stream restoration projects that reduce stormwater runoff and sediment pollution, and we work with landowners to voluntarily protect their properties for land and water conservation values.

I remember when scrapped auto bodies, tires and discarded cement were used to ‘stabilize’ the riverbanks, and the stream itself was treated as an open waste-disposal system. But thanks to RiverLink’s efforts over these last three decades, the French Broad has become a destination — worth an estimated $3.8 billion to WNC today.—Joe Sasfy, co-owner, All Souls Pizza
